CATHOLIC FACTOR IN CONTEMPORARY POLISH AND GERMAN ART 04.04.2009-17.05.2009
On 3rd of April 2009 has been officially opened by Pater Friedhelm Mennekes the exhibition Catholic factor in contemporary Poilish and German Art. It was done by Berufsverband Bildender Kunstler Niederbayern i Oberpfalz e.V.with City Regensburg partnership and cooperation with Foundation for Promoting Contemporary Art and Program Gallery in Minaretische Kirche in Regensburg. Official patron of Catholic factor in contemporary Polish and German art exhibition is Polish Minister Władysaw Bartoszewski. It's a curated exhibition by Maciej Czapski and Christian Schnurer.
"The pictorial image, a characteristic of the Catholic
rite has closely coupled the church and the arts over the centuries. The use of
imagery has always had its dangers and has often caused strife in the history
of religion. Indeed, the Old Testament forbade pictorial representation. It
opposed figurative imagery as such – fearing idolatry as a consequence. Despite this, images have been anchored in our collective
consciousness that continue as the Catholic Factor to this day. We are tracing
this phenomenon in Poland and Germany`s contemporary art." Maciej Czapski and Christian Schnurer
